Emily Meehan is a writer, media producer, and public relations consultant based in New York. She has worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Kenya, New York, Alaska and California — covering war, humanitarian emergencies, children’s issues, politics, oil, and culture for radio, print and online media outlets, and acting as a spokesperson for humanitarian agencies. She wrote the popular ‘Act One’ column for the Wall Street Journal, and contributes to Slate.com. Emily has collaborated with artists, journalists, performers and institutions such as Al Jazeera, Hal Robbins, Antoine Calvino, Abdiaziz Hassan, Cultural Video Foundation, Radio Okapi, KQED, Frédéric Courbet and Keith Bedford. She started at KCRW FM in Los Angeles, assisting DJs and performing on Joe Frank’s Peabody Award-winning radio show, “The Other Side.” Emily speaks to students and volunteers in social work and education projects for vulnerable youth.
